At a campaign kickoff event held at Smiley’s Pub & Beer Garden, Weatherly addressed supporters under the theme “The job’s not finished,” signaling a return to the department where his public safety career began.

In doing so, he reaffirmed his deep roots in local law enforcement and his continued commitment to serving the people of Wayne County.
Weatherly’s campaign centers around strengthening collaboration between local law enforcement agencies. With the slogan “One County. One Team.”, he’s emphasized the need for unity between city, county, and township departments to improve communication, case coordination, and service to the community.
During his announcement, Weatherly highlighted his boots-on-the-ground experience, over 66,000 hours serving Wayne County, and his leadership track record. His time in the U.S. Army and law enforcement has shaped a no-nonsense, community-first leadership style. He has pledged to apply the same accountability and officer-focused reforms he led at RPD to the sheriff’s office.
